YOUTH PERCEPTIONS ON FOREIGN INFLUENCE IN CHAD

Welcome to the Sahel Public Diplomacy Centre’s First Youth Poll on International Influence in Chad

This poll is particularly timely, as Chad undergoes a significant transitional period following the loss of its president in April 2021 during clashes with rebels. Strategically located between the Sahel and the Horn of Africa, Chad plays a pivotal role in the region’s stability. Chad’s northern border with Libya adds to its strategic importance, especially as the country continues to grapple with the fallout from Libya’s collapse after the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi. As a result, Chad has become a focal point for global powers seeking influence, including newer players like China, Turkey, Britain, and Russia, who are vying for presence in the realms of trade, security, and diplomacy. Given that youth make up nearly 70% of Chad’s population, it is crucial to understand how they perceive this growing international presence. This youth poll aims to capture their views on the various global influences shaping their country, offering critical insight into how the next generation of Chadians sees their nation’s place in the global sphere.
